Recollecting Boston
It was cold, breezy and rainy evening, when we reached Boston, flying. Colder than Michigan. Again few cliched thoughts knocked my head.
“Oh no, not again, I am fed up of this cold... Came to Boston to enjoy summers and here comes the hackneyed cold and rains...when the hell I would be able to enjoy the US without my jacket ?”
Well, it wasn’t weather’s fault. I am not sure what’s wrong with my body-thermostat, because of which most of the time I feel cold. I keep wondering why my goosebumps are permanently hyperactive by default, even after practicing rigorous Yoga, exercises, taekwondo etc.. Anyways, I am still trying hard to immunize.
But the good news didn't take much time to arrive, as we had a shuttle-ride from airport to rental cars area. I love travelling in public transport but being in Michigan, an auto state lacking public transport services, my cravings for even watching buses, taxis, trams-trains, metros, auto-rickshaws, tongas etc., has reached heights. I have always travelled in bus and metros in India and I miss that independence after coming here. Thus, riding a long public bus after a long time was like a joy-ride for me, and especially sitting on those connectors, which revolved on turning of the bus. Shuttle was huge and tall caterpillar, and body-language like a sophisticated old lady with an impaired back. It was a nice, smart bus, as if a blue-white bedsheet has been spread on the road.
We checked-in a sweet and simple, already booked hotel with an spacious suite, enough rooms for our morning yoga. This was actually one of the best suites we got so far in US trips, because we saved our endeavor from setting up the furnitures sideways managing space for next day’s yoga and exercises, which is our addiction. Can’t live without that.
I convinced my husband, not to book the hi-fi hotels, where almost an hour is spent commuting from the suite to the parking lot. In fact more, when we forget our parking number. Seems just irritating and energy-conserving. Simple smalls hotel are convenient and comfortable in terms of all facilities. Any minimal facilitated hotel would provide the accessories which we would be needing (as we don't really need much for staying for two-three days). In fact, I don’t think I need anything much except a restroom and it’s basic accessories. So why go for the high-class once ? In addition, small/cheap ones generally provide the breakfast, which is usually cut down in the expensive ones. I had a pretty bad experience of high-class hotels, of hunting veg-breakfast joints in the morning, starving after rigorous yoga. Therefore, getting breakfast before jaunting, was a blessing, which was bestowed in this homely one.
Cruise-ride in Cape Cod
Next day’s plan of action was riding whale-watching cruise. It was hyannis whale watching cruise services (hwwcs). It was an enchanting trip and I was glad we selected. I felt the pleasure in my heart when we rided and started off smoothly, but also felt the same pleasure converting into frustration when the same heart was battling with unbearably chilly waves in the middle of the sea, during the cruise accelerations. But we continued to stand outside for a while, to immunize and to face that breezy aura, enjoyed and acknowledging Lisa’s running commentary.
We were busy clicking when reached the destination in an hour --- whale watching. Watched around thirty-forty whales and even more dolphins till one and half hours. Weather was finally good as the cruise halted… now no more annoying airs.
There was salt, pepper, humpbacks, finbacks, minkes, pilot whales and the critically endangered right whales. Enjoyed sighting the calf or baby-whale mimicking her mom, seabirds distracting them, super high and circular dives by dolphins etc.. I liked the way commentator indicated the direction, when she found whale showing up and wanted us to know. She indicated with 1 O'clock, 2, 3, 4, etc. -- directions of time (in a clock) from our ship. The reason why she was able to guide us accurately without delaying. The view was really beautiful, especially that particular peacock green circumference surrounding the recently-occurred whale, as the water went green by it’s reflection. The whole stuff lasted for approximately three hours when we returned napping inside.
MIT and Harvard Visit
Next day, we visited MIT and Harvard In Boston, which was our prime desired location. It was impressive to walk on the streets sighting student’s activities -- running, jogging, biking, hanging-out, reading and relishing the perfect weather on their prolonged weekend. The weather was the best I’ve ever had. It was a combination of sunny and gusty. We had that pleasure walk till the legs, especially the big toe, went agonized. We ecstatically observed the spellbound architecture of the buildings and churches, restaurants, including the brief Harvard walk for few hours, and headed towards the airport to see-off Boston.
